Dalí. Tarot – Johannes Fiebig
English Description
Dalí poses as the Magician, his wife Gala becomes the Empress, and the death of Julius Caesar is reimagined as the Ten of Swords in this extraordinary custom tarot deck by Salvador Dalí. First published in a limited art edition in 1984—which has long since sold out—this lavish box set brings back all 78 cards, each dazzling in color, along with a companion book detailing the story of its creation and practical reading instructions.
Legend has it that while preparing props for the James Bond movie Live and Let Die, producer Albert Broccoli commissioned Surrealist master Salvador Dalí to create a custom tarot deck. Inspired by his wife Gala, who fostered his fascination with mysticism, Dalí eagerly began the project and continued it on his own when the contract fell through.
Published in 1984, the deck made Dalí the first renowned artist to create an entirely new set of tarot cards. Drawing on Western masterpieces from antiquity to modern times—including his own works—Dalí seamlessly blended esoteric symbolism with his signature wit, resulting in a surreal kaleidoscope of European art history.
TASCHEN is now reissuing all 78 cards in this stunning collection, complete with a booklet by renowned German tarot scholar Johannes Fiebig. The guide offers an introduction to Dalí’s life and the creation of the deck, in-depth explanations of each card’s imagery and meaning, practical advice, step-by-step reading techniques, and a clear, accessible approach ideal for both beginners and experienced readers.

According to legend, Dalí was approached by producer Albert Broccoli to design a special tarot deck for the James Bond movie Live and Let Die.
