Green and pink tourmaline on alabaster – 1,138 grams

This impressive tourmaline on alabaster comes from the famous mining region of Paprok, Afghanistan. The piece features a harmonious combination of bright green tourmaline needles and subtle inclusions of pink crystals, embedded in a snow-white alabaster matrix. The alabaster forms a soft, almost powdery base that contrasts beautifully with the vivid color of the tourmaline. Dimensions: approx. 14.5 × 13.5 × 6.5 cm.

What makes this piece so special is the rare presence of both colors of tourmaline in a single formation, which points to complex geological conditions during crystallization. The green crystals (verdelite) are elongated and translucent, while the pink tourmalines are subtly present as faintly sparkling accents. Together, they create a balanced and elegant whole.

Geologically speaking, this is a valuable specimen. Tourmaline forms in pegmatites, where the slow cooling of silica- and boron-bearing magma leads to the formation of complex crystal structures. The color variations result from traces of elements such as iron (green) and manganese (pink). Alabaster, a soft, fine-grained form of gypsum, forms from evaporite rocks. The combination of these two minerals in a single piece makes this a unique find for the connoisseur or collector.

Tourmaline is traditionally regarded as a stone of protection and balance. The green variety aids in healing and harmony, while pink tourmaline promotes gentleness and love.
